Demo Day has come and gone. It was held at the USC Gamepipe Lab on May 8th, 2007. Our presentation had a few hiccups due to technical problems with the projector, but overall reception of the game has been positive!

We have released a Demo Video and screenshots in our Media page.

Before the game is released to the public, the development team would like to address a few issues (namely, adding proper widescreen support, fixing a few camera issues, crowd AI, song modding capabilities)

Also, be sure to check out DRUM GOD on CNet News!

Once the public demo is released, we'll begin the Alpha 2 development. If you'd like to help out, please email csanglim[at]usc[dot]edu. We are in particular need of:
- 3D Animators
- Shader-Compositor Programmers
- Music Composer

Game industry folks looking on

March 29th, 2007

We have about 5 weeks left. We are slow on getting assets, but hopefully they should be done soon! Screenshots will be posted next week. We will be recording sounds for audience members very soon, and the song will be rewritten/recorded. We have also implemented specular mapping for our drum kit.

Just to let everyone know, the game is very easy to mod, adding custom tracks would be very easy. There is also a decent chance the project will become open-source.

Next week will be a good week, I promise.

As you may have noticed, we have changed our game name to DRUM GOD. Stop by the Gamepipe Lab to check out our poster, or just grab a small preview from the media page. We've updated that page as well with other downloads. Our band assets are now complete. Drum Villain Nelson Dou has done an excellent job with them, and we've now entrusted Chris Hui to hook the motion captured animations into the models. Let's hope the Pipeline Team (our real assets team) can complete the other assets soon.

Just a small update. Spring Break is coming soon, but we'll still be working! If you're on campus sometime in the next few weeks, stop by the Gamepipe Lab and check out our soon-to-be-released poster!

Here's a picture of MK in a sexy black, tight suit. Click on the image for a bigger version. The suit was needed to capture his movements for the animations we'll be incorporating into our game. We got a good number of animations, and MK was great! Special thanks to Chris Hui and Danny Parks for helping make this happen.

More 3D assets have been completed! You can check out their awesomeness in the media page. We are now beginning to develop special effects as well as basic gameplay. Tomorrow, we will begin motion capturing MK for our character animations. Let's cheer him on!

On the graphics side, we are on track to be the first group at USC to write vertex and pixel shaders, and utilize normal mapping and light-scattering effects. On the technical side, we are the first group to get a firm grasp on Wii-mote controls. Unfortunately, we are the last when it comes to thinking of a good game name. Some names that floated around today: "Give Me a Groupie", "Drum Star", "Drum Star: 1974 Rimshot Edition: One Night Only", "Drum God", and "Sex, Drums, and Rock n' Roll".

And to answer many questions, Activision has already taken Drum Hero and Drum Villain.

Our 3D assets are now beginning to develop. The programming side is busy as well -- we've been able to hook Wii-mote controls into our graphics engine, and we're now going to hook up a sound system to it as well. Special effects are also being investigated.

In other news, Victor Lacour (our professor) and Pamela Fox (our TA) can't get enough of our game! And the gameplay isn't even in yet!

February 9th, 2007

Tentative game name "One Night Only" proposed. Character art is currently under development. Basic gameplay mechanics are starting to be coded. Wii-mote functionality being investigated thoroughly. Music is being composed. Interface UI is being finalized. It's starting to get busy around here.
